    "content": "Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to add my voice to this Statement. It is important for us to have mechanisms for giving royalties to communities that are supposed to benefit from the mining industry. I looked at the background of this Statement and realized that a number of minerals have been extracted in Taita Taveta but the residents have not benefited from the proceeds of mining; they are wallowing in poverty without hospitals or schools. We need to have indicators of mining. Land owners need to be compensated when minerals are found in their land. This legislation will ensure that people benefit from the natural resources that are in their communities. I thank Sen. Mwaruma for coming up with this Statement. The Committee that will deal with this Statement should fast-track it for the benefit of the common man."
