"content": " Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this timely Bill. I have heard several times that old is gold. Truly, old is gold. That is where there is wisdom. We have come across so many cases concerning our old people in the villages as we go about our day-to-day activities. We have come across cases of our old people living miserably, simply because they do not have other family members to take care of them. Some of them, maybe, lost family members through death while some of them never had children at all. We have come across cases where older women have been raped simply because they live in the villages alone. So, when I see this Bill, I am a very happy person. For sure, we need the Government to come on board to provide a framework that will promote and take care of the rights of old people in the society. Having listened to the Mover of the Bill, this Bill is well articulated. We need it to protect the dignity of the old members of our families in terms of their wellbeing, safety and security. I have a case in Taita Taveta which I am still following up on. That is why I am here up to now, to support this Bill. It is a case of a lady who was raped to death. She was an old member of the society. Therefore, as I stand here today, I support this Bill."
