Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move: THAT, the Bill be amended in clause 39 in the proposed new item in the description by inserting the words “excluding imported glass bottles for packaging of pharmaceutical products”. The reason for this amendment is that the Bill is proposing to tax imported glass at 25 per cent in order to promote local manufacturing. Whereas this is going to promote local manufacturing as per the Big Four Agenda, it is also making some of the packaging materials for pharmaceuticals which are used in Universal Health Care (UHC) to be expensive. We are, therefore, moving this amendment to exclude imported glass for packaging of pharmaceutical products."
