"content": "There were issues raised concerning the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing. For example, the Bill that is attempting to amend the National Construction Authority (NCA) Act was to provide for a building code in this country. We do not have it yet. It means that when contractors are building, they may not even know about the code to be followed. Therefore, their assessment and monitoring becomes subjective. So, we want to give new power to the NCA, so that it can develop a building code. This will enable us avoid issues of marking houses later because they were not done properly. The NCA becomes objective rather than subjective in saying that some buildings were not done properly and when you ask why, they do not have a code. It is a fundamental amendment to the NCA Act and we are supporting it. As a Committee, we thank the Executive on this one.
