"content": "The conservative method utilises traction of graduated weight to re-unite bones, and it has minimal direct cost. However, patients on traction are hospitalised for long periods of time, from six months onwards. Surgical patients at Kerugoya District Hospital who cannot afford surgical implants are put on traction until their fractures heal. This is because the implants are not supplied by the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) and the hospital cannot afford to buy them since they are very expensive."
