"content": " Thank you Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Bill. I am one of those people who come from constituencies which grow quality tea, but we are not earning enough money for many reasons. I do not want to lay all the blame on KTDA because, maybe, we have had a lot of issues with the management. But it is time we think pound-wise, instead of penny-wise. We have been thinking about the small things about KTDA and the small interests they put to run their affairs. Those percentages contribute up-to a maximum of 30 per cent while 70 per cent goes to the farmer. My main concern and joy, is the creation of this Board. I want this Board to be created because of the roles that it will undertake. The main problem we have in this country is that tea is not a locally consumed product. We only consume 5 per cent of our tea in the country. About 95 per cent of the tea is marketed outside the country. Because 95 per cent of the tea is marketed outside, this is not a personal farmer affair. It should be a serious Government undertaking - The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only.
