When you are selling coffee out there, even we as Members of Parliament, there is a hotel you can go to and purchase a cup of coffee at Ksh20 while in another hotel you can purchase an equivalent cup of coffee, or tea for that matter, for over Ksh500. In between, there is nothing we can say about supply chain because those are coffees or teas, so to speak. But in terms of value addition, it is added when it comes to brewing and marketing. How do we market our tea or coffee? This is the reason why our two major cash crops are used to blend other lower qualities out there. Otherwise, we have a great chance of selling our AA coffee, for example, and marketing and selling our highly valued and high-grade tea if we come to a proportion of marketing the two commodities based on originality and in terms of taste.
