"content": "Parliaments worldwide are conscious of the school calendars and thus try to align their calendars with those of the schools. It is in this regard that this Calendar has also been synchronised with the school holidays, particularly the August holiday. This will allow Members with school-going children – I know many of us have school-going children – to bond with their children. I am also being reminded by Hon. Chris Wamalwa that it gives them an opportunity to make others. It is also important for Members to note that the days for short recess have been increased from 10 days to 18 days. In the previous Sessions, the short recess has always been 10 days but, in this new Calendar, the number of days in short recess has been increased from 10 to 18 days. In the last Parliament, the short recess was reduced to 10 days because we were still concluding legislation to implement the new Constitution. We continued with this trend in the Second and Third Sessions of this Parliament. Experience has taught us that there is merit in extending the period of short recess, which is the second new feature in this Calendar. The House Business Committee is cognisant of the 46 Private Members’ Bills sponsored in the last Session. In this regard, the Committee has agreed to prioritise those Bills for consideration on Wednesday mornings so as to fast-track them during this Session.
