"content": "The fourth thing I wish to say is that President Moi believed in political organization in the form of political parties. He stuck to the Kenya National African Union (KANU) for his entire life after leaving the Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU). Those who were in KANU such as Sen. Orengo and the team that was in the initial KANU when Moi came to office will tell you that the machinery of KANU as a party--- President Moi respected the institution of a political party as a way of mobilizing politics in this country. He had leaders from across the country running that political party. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is something we need to emulate. If we want to end tribalism in our politics, we need to build three or four political parties in this nation that have particular ideological views. We need to nurture and grow them, so that we can have competition based on issues and political parties, and not on individuals and individual communities. The late President Moi was a human being and made mistakes. It will be a lie on the Floor of this House to say he was an angel who did not do anything wrong. Perhaps some of the things that are remembered by many are that in his effort to unite this country, he oversaw arrests and punishment of many people who had dissenting views. That was not easy, if you look at the context and the prevailing political environment that was in this continent. Mr. Speaker, Sir, he made his mistakes and did a lot for this country. As we also make our mistakes, we must work hard, do better and make this country a great nation. In paying tribute to the late President Moi, we are lucky as the Senate to have his son and last born sitting in his House, the current Chairman of KANU. We condole with Sen. Moi, his brother in the National Assembly and the rest of the family members. We wish them God’s blessings and grace at this very difficult time. I hope that our colleague, Sen. Moi, will continue the good deeds that his father did by reaching out to as many people as possible and harnessing--- Sen. Khaniri is agreeing with me. Sen. Moi should continue harnessing the opportunities that his father left and make sure that we preserve that information. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am aware that the Cabinet was working on something about presidential libraries. We want all our four Presidents so far, and future Presidents, to have their stories and history recorded. It should become a true presidential library. It should not be a library that has only information of the good deeds of the Presidents. It must also have their shortcomings, so that we can learn from the good they did and also"
