    "content": "Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I know that the treatment of malaria is becoming more challenging because of the resistance. Every now and then, the various medicines that have been used are becoming more and more ineffective as the parasite becomes more and more resistant. For example, chloroquine, which used to be very cheap and easily available, is now no longer used because of resistance. Now, we are in a third generation and maybe going to newer generation medicine. So, I fully support the fact that research needs to be done especially by Kenyans and other African countries where malaria is prevalent. The researches that we now get are mainly sponsored or done by Kenyans sometimes but with support from external sources because we do not, as a country, invest very much in research and development."
