"content": "the population to safer grounds and to upgrade the environment to prevent further incidences of this nature from happening. It is for this reason that I wish to draw this matter to the attention of the Senate and appeal to the Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources to take up this matter with the national Government and- (1) Explain the measures being undertaken to ensure that all persons who reside in the affected areas are fully accounted for; (2) State the measures being undertaken to find alternative land to resettle the families that are displaced annually; (3) State whether there is any form of compensation that will be granted to the families and victims who are counting huge loses as result of the destruction of property and loss of lives; (4) State the steps being taken by the Government to rebuild the schools that have been destroyed such as Liter Girls Secondary School, which has been completely destroyed, Chesogon Primary School and Cheptany Primary School in West Pokot and Elgeyo-Marakwet, respectively and the roads that have been washed away as a result of the landslide; and, (5) State the measures that are being undertaken to upgrade the environment in this area to ensure that these incidences do not occur in future. Mr. Speaker, Sir, in conclusion, I want to thank my colleagues who have shown interest in supporting these people. I will be coming back to them formally, together with Sen. Poghisio, to request further support so that we can supplement the efforts that are being made by other well-wishers and the Government of Kenya. Thank you."
