The effects of the electricity blackouts are far-reaching to the community especially during this COVID-19 pandemic, where the country is in a lockdown and citizens mainly rely on electricity for their daily activities especially the education sector, small-scale businesses, health and security. Hon. Speaker, it is against this background that I seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Energy on the following: (i) Could the Chairperson explain why the Kenya Power has been interrupting and disconnecting the customers’ electricity supply for hours in Mukurweini Constituency without prior notice? (ii) What steps has the Government taken to ensure that Kenya Power does not breach contractual obligations with their customers? (iii)What measures has the Government put in place to ensure consistent provision of electricity by Kenya Power especially during the COVID-19 pandemic?"
