"content": "Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise pursuant to Standing Order No. 48(1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Finance and Budget regarding the foreseeable challenges of meeting the deadline for filing the 2019 income tax returns by taxpayers in the country. In the Statement, the Committee should - (a)State whether there are any plans by the Government to extend the deadline or put in place measures of filing of Income Tax returns given the prevailing circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic. We anticipate and, many people have made presentations to some of us, that this may hinder taxpayers with Information Technology (IT) related challenges from accessing Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) offices for further assistance. (b)State the measures, if any, that the Government will put in place to ensure that KRA does not unduly punish or penalize Kenyans who will not have met the deadline for filing their Income Tax returns based on the complexities and challenges of Covid-19, including cessation of movement as well as other income losses that may disadvantage them to access the internet."
