    "content": "Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me a chance to request for this very important Statement on the issue of food security. As you are aware, our supermarket shelves and food stalls are almost empty. Therefore, there is need for us to help farmers to be able to produce. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.48 (1) to seek a Statement from the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries concerning the efficacy, safety and affordability of livestock vaccines, pesticides and herbicides. In the Statement, the Committee should - (1) State measures put in place by the Government to ensure constant and adequate supply of safe and effective livestock vaccines, pesticides and herbicides for use by farmers. (2) Explain the control mechanisms deployed by the Government to monitor safety and efficacy of livestock vaccines, pesticides and herbicides in the market, to ensure that farmers are not exposed to losses through uses of such vaccines, pesticides and herbicides. (3) State plans put in place to ensure that livestock vaccines, pesticides and herbicides are not sold at prohibitive prices by manufacturers and retailers. (4) State whether tax imposed on essential livestock vaccines, pesticides and herbicides can be reduced in order to support agriculture and production in the country.
