"content": "(2) The mission in China has requested for amnesty for Kenyans with irregular status; imagine, because as you are aware, there are many Chinese here with irregular status. (3) The Kenyan mission in France has facilitated 61 teacher trainees to be accommodated by universities in France for a month. (4) The Kenyan missions in Morocco and Czech Republic have facilitated students to be accommodated in the universities. (5) Our Kenyan mission in Hungary has facilitated 200 students with food and accommodation. (6) Facilitating those who want to come back home by looking for airline and negotiating air ticket prices then the Kenyans pay for those subsidized tickets and through that- (i) On 27th March, 2020, 70 Kenyans got tickets from South Sudan. (ii)On 7th April, 2020, 21 Kenyans from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Dubai came on an Emirates flight. (iii)On 1st of May, 2020, 18 Kenyans from Egypt aboard Air Cairo. (iv)On 4th of May, 2020, 21 Kenyans from Pakistan aboard Pakistan International Airline. (v) On 4th of May, 2020, 55 Kenyans aboard Kenya Airways. (vi)On 7th of May, 2020, 233 Kenyans from India aboard Kenya Airways. This was the most challenging exercise because many of them were unwell and they were scattered in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. As India was on total lockdown, the Indian Government was gracious enough to allow our local Charter to move Kenyans to Mumbai and then they came aboard Kenya Airways (KQ). (i) On 8th of May, 2020, 200 Kenyans from the UAE, Dubai again. (ii) On 10th of May, 2020, 165 Kenyans from China. Madam Temporary Speaker, we have to commend as a House, the Kenyan missions abroad. I think that they are doing a good job. In total, as at the date when we met the Ministry, 744 Kenyans have been facilitated to come back home and I am sure that the number has gone up. The Ministry has also put in place monetary interventions. I am sure that many hon. Senators are not aware. There is a stipend that was extended to students in Wuhan to the tune of Kshs9.8 million. They are getting that stipend from the Government of Kenya. There is a Standing Committee on Emergency Response that has been set up and is chaired by the Hon. Ababu Namwamba, the Cabinet Administrative Secretary (CAS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are supposed to put in place proactive measures just in case need arises for the more than 100,000 Kenyans working as domestic workers in the Middle East. Many Kenyans are in the Middle East working as domestic workers and we must be concerned. Madam Temporary Speaker, on the issue of truck drivers, I think that was discussed. Again as I said, Sen. Mwinyi Haji will be better placed as he seconds this Motion. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
