  • 29 Jun 2016 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. The request for the statement was with regard to the number of schools that are connected to the national grid. It did not go further to request for statistics that would answer the question being asked by the Senate Minority Leader. The two counties that he has mentioned have got a high number of schools. Over 800 schools have been connected and you are saying that-- - view
  • 9 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I also want to register my comments based on the arguments made by my colleague in the Senate Committee on Finance, Commerce and Budget, Sen. Kagwe. These petitions, in my opinion, will either break or make the Senate in the eyes of the public. In many occasions, when the petitioners present their petitions, they look at the Senate as the House of last resort or as a place where they can find refuge from the plunder that is being carried out in the country by most governors. It will be a great adversity to the promise of ... view
  • 7 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I Just want to inform Sen. Mong’are that Manda Island is one of the most beautiful beaches this country has. It is in Kilifi County and from 23rd to 26th June, a few select young Senators will have the privilege of hiding there to be inducted on the practices and cultures of this House. If you want to join the club, you are invited, though I am not sure who will bear the cost. view
  • 7 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this chance. I rise to support this Bill for the following reasons. First, this is something that the Senate Minority Leader alluded to in his long speech, though he contradicted himself by appearing to push the case for what I will refer to as “smaller” political parties. Probably, he thinks that the sponsors of the Bill have been sponsored. He was quite clear in his opening remarks that this Bill has been sponsored by the Jubilee Government so as to put through the eminent merger between the parties that are therein. ... view
  • 31 May 2016 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this chance. I rise to support this Motion and I do so especially coming from a county that is blessed to have the first Kenyan to win an Olympic medal. I know what the Olympics means to us as a nation. It would have been a great tragedy if, as legislators of this nation, we had not rectified the challenges that we are facing. We know the history of what happened until we have found ourselves here today. That is not strange news to any of us in this House. We ... view

  • 3 May 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Kericho County is a neighbour to Nandi County. Therefore, we have felt first-hand the burden of the residents of Nandi County having to travel all the way to Kericho to seek medical attention. I was at home over the weekend and met a couple of people from Nandi County seeking treatment. Therefore, I know how difficult it is for the residents of Nandi County during this time that the strike is ongoing. We are all aware that issues of health cannot be postponed or taken casually. In my opinion, the Committee on Health has treated this matter ... view
  • 3 May 2016 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to also rise and support this amendment. This is an issue that many of us at times treat so casually and lightly.Perhaps, we have not addressed ourselves properly to it over a period of time because we consider it a preserve of only the disabled. As leaders, I think we are challenged many times in our thoughts to reason or imagine ourselves not only as individuals but to see the county or the constituency that we represent in its entirety. Last weekend, I attended a funeral service of a ... view
  • 27 Apr 2016 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to make my contributions. I support the Bill. I do so, for the following three reasons. One of the tenets of any thriving democracy is good political parties that are founded on ideals and not individuals. One of the biggest challenges that we are facing right now as a country is that people do not take positions out of certain thinking, but from the positions of individuals and personalities. What we have today in the name of political parties, with all sincerity and honesty and due respect to any ... view
  • 27 Apr 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you for protecting me from the bullfighter, the Senator for Kakamega. What he is expressing continues to confirm my line of thought and train of argument; that many of our political parties are not espousing any particular ideal. That leadership has passed from a certain individual and that people follow a particular party because they believe in particular ideals. This Bill--- view
