  • 27 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I am a resident of Busia County and represent one of the constituencies in that county. One of the towns mentioned is in my constituency. First, I need to thank the national Government for opening, constructing and establishing a one-stop Border Point at Malaba, which has created a lot of efficiency in the Customs processes. The issues that have been raised by the Member for Matayos which affect Busia similarly affect Malaba Town, which is in my constituency. Besides congestion and the fact that there are delays in processing ... view
  • 27 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I want to congratulate, Hon. Jude Njomo, for coming up with a Bill that is long overdue. We had the Donde Bill earlier on which was a missed opportunity for Kenyans to make sure they get value for money in the banking sector. We know that the gap between what customers receive as deposit rates and what they pay as interest rates when they borrow from banks is inordinately huge and unreasonable. It explains why if you look at the top 10 most profitable companies in Kenya, you will find an inordinate representation of ... view
  • 27 Jul 2016 in National Assembly: widen the net. We know that many Kenyans are unbanked. The banks can provide additional services. They can expand their services to rural populations and people who do not have easy access to finance. In fairness, we know that banks have lately expanded access to credit for most Kenyans, but that access has come at a very high price to Kenyans. Most of them are not able to service their loans because the interest rates are too high. This coupled with the fact that many Kenyans are financially illiterate or half-literate, they do not read the small print and they ... view
  • 28 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. Any country in the world will have some information that needs to be protected or information that can easily be used against the best interest of the country. Therefore, as we debate and want Kenyans to enjoy their right of access to information, there is a need to ensure that that right is not exercised recklessly. So, I support the confidentiality of certain pieces of information. If you moved that to the private sector, you would also find that relationships between doctors and patients, bankers and clients need to be protected. So, we need ... view
  • 28 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. This has to do with the exploitation of our natural resources. It has to do with the required effort by the Government to address the energy needs of our nation. This has to do with being able to do things in time. This may involve, at some point, responses to certain needs that the country has. Therefore, if we want to move forward and ensure that Kenyans have energy where and when they need it, it is important that we be time bound in our actions. So, I fully support that we have a ... view
  • 28 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. This amendment does a few things to the whole clause. It is important as we make decisions as human beings, especially when dealing with companies such as this, that we focus on what is most important and spend our energy on things that are going to add value to life. If we focused and excluded what is not material in terms of loss to whoever the consumer or complainant is, we will be doing a great The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly.
