  • 16 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Recently, I sat in a conference of trade unions where the whole of Africa was represented. They discussed labour issues, climate change and women empowerment in the labour movement. This is an important Motion. I thank the Mover for bringing it to the House. I support it. view
  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, thank you for this opportunity. I congratulate my sister for bringing this Motion. I support it. A majority of children with disabilities do not go to school because schools are not available. If we ensure that every primary and secondary school has a special unit, we will ensure that children living with disabilities have access to education and all the services that are supposed to be offered under the Bill of Rights. Children with special needs require to be in primary and secondary school. Most importantly, this will give us an opportunity to collect data of ... view
  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: At the same time, there is an absolute need for the Government to collect data on families with children with special needs and ensure that they provide social services to them. For instance, there should be waiver of taxes for parents of disabled children. There should be support from the social structures. Because I was given one minute, I support the Motion. view
  • 14 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I stand to support the Motion because when you think about it, this country seems to always not care about what the citizens are going through. It takes me back to a time when all of a sudden, energy saving bulbs were introduced. The Government came up with a project of distributing energy saving bulbs to communities. People were told that the Government wanted to try and save energy. That was done only once. Somebody benefitted and the project was done away with. view

  • 14 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Solar heating systems are good things to have, but they are very costly. The way it was programmed by the Energy Regulatory Commission shows that this was, again, going to be part of a corruption mix. The fact that we have a Committee that looked into these regulations and said that we cannot afford to do this – that we need to do away with them – is fantastic. We want green energy, but we need incentives. The Government has to recognise that the citizens at this particular time are really hard pressed. The economy is suffering. For us to ... view

  • 3 Jul 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support this Bill but with reservations. When you look at Clause 48(1), it seems like we are not serious about protecting our old. How can we say that if you steal from the fund, you pay a fine of Kshs5 million or serve two years in prison? Let me bring you a case that is currently in court. There is a driver who skipped bail and he has been fined Kshs130,000, which he does not have. Now, he has been thrown into Kamiti Prison for two years and three months. For ... view
