As someone who has served in the nomination process in the largest political party in the Republic, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which boasts of a majority of about 800 MCAs, I know what this Petition is talking about. First, is the content of the letter that the Cabinet Secretary wrote to this House. • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have been a victim of this provision of the Constitution many times in my county because each time nominations are done, they look at the Senator or any person perceived to be close to the powers that be and they imagine that you have a hand in it, yet it is the IEBC. I hope our Committee can guide us so that we make the necessary amendments and give life to these Articles of the Constitution without necessarily being limited to that Petition alone. • 4 Oct 2023 in Senate: I saw a letter last week from a Cabinet Secretary telling us of their non- appearance from someone called a chief--- I cannot even remember the title. Tell them that we shall no longer be accepting such letters. If you cannot plan your diary and sit down in front of your desk and draft a letter to Parliament to respond to us to say that you cannot appear before the House because of certain reasons, it shows that you do not even have the presence of mind to know that you are supposed to appear before the House.
