  • 13 Jun 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you for this chance. I join the rest of my colleagues who are commenting on this Statement by our colleague Sen. Cherargei on the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). You will recall that we had a similar conversation last week about Members of our County Assemblies (MCAs). Today, he has equally reminded us that SRC has done certain things which from the tone and mood of the Statement, he finds either unjustified or would wish to understand it better. That is proper and in order. However, the Committee that you will task to handle this matter ... view

  • 13 Jun 2023 in Senate: Be that as it may, you also know that SRC is a constitutional commission. It works independently but also looks at all matters that have been presented before it with a view of what is in the best interest of the country. If they want to regulate, then let them do so but the principle of equity and fairness must not only be done but must equally be seen to be done. I thank you for this chance. view
  • 8 Jun 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity to contribute to this important Bill, which comes after the horizontal distribution of resources that we did a few weeks ago. I listened to the comments of the Mover and the Seconder of this Bill on the debate we had before this House and in other places, including in public barazas, funerals and rallies. This is testament to the work of the Senate and how important it is, particularly this and the Division of Revenue Bills. Once we have shared resources between the national and the county Governments, we proceed to share ... view

  • 8 Jun 2023 in Senate: This is the first opportunity I get to read and see County Allocation of Revenue Bill, not as a Member of a Committee, but an ordinary Senator. I want to see it from the perspective of our colleagues who have taken time to listen to the presentations and the request that come from the various county assemblies, which are quite important. This is not a practice that was long established. It is something that we began a few years ago. Otherwise, back in the day, once the Division of Revenue Bill was out of the way, there was very little ... view
