  • 29 Aug 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I support the Motion for the formation of the dialogue committee. This is the most appropriate time. This country has had a lot of problems in the past even today. As we proceed with the dialogue, I want to ask the committee Members to be very focused and they should listen to people outside the committee. The committee must cater to the interests of Kenyans first. Leaders should allow the dialogue to continue without any interruption. We always hear the stories from the top leaders that these bipartisan meetings are an exercise in futility, which is a ... view
  • 29 Aug 2023 in Senate: This country has a rule of law. The Constitution has allowed elections to take place. In every election cycle, we have problems. However, this should not happen again. The winner should accommodate all and the loser should accept the loss. I thank you. view
  • 9 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. First and foremost, I want to thank the Cabinet Secretary. He is among the few Cabinet Secretaries that always respond to Parliamentary Questions, and he comes in on time. I thank you for that seriousness. My name is Sen. Abass, the Senator for Wajir County. I think you know that because you have worked in Wajir in other capacities, and you understand the whole geographical setup. view
  • 9 Aug 2023 in Senate: The issue of the acute shortage of teachers in Wajir and the entire region of Northern Kenya especially in the three counties of Mandera, Wajir and Garissa has been long overdue. I know that there are so many teachers who have been moving. There is a high turnover of teachers because of insecurity. TSC has used the region as a recruitment centre. I understand that the situation of insecurity is still there. Despite recruiting, after one year, the teachers move out. The security issue is not in the entire region, but along the borders. The other part of the region ... view

  • 9 Aug 2023 in Senate: What plans do you have to solve the problem of teachers? Teachers can be moved to other parts of the counties instead of removing them from the entire region. What are your plans so that we do not continue suffering? view
  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. First and foremost, I want to thank the Hon. Cabinet Secretary for the good work that she is doing all over the country. Hon. Cabinet Secretary you are aware that there are certain areas that have a lot of challenge with water and afforestation program cannot succeed very well. So, is there any plan for affirmative action for the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands areas (ASALs)? In the past, there used to be the green schools where we used to have all schools being given seedlings. The schools used to have some kind of competition for ... view
  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Deputy Speaker, Sir. I thank the Cabinet Secretary for the good responses she has given. I come from Wajir County, which is 56,000 Square Kilometres and it is a landlocked area. There is no river that flows; there are temporary flowing streams. However, the land is endowed with underground water. However, because of the dry seasons that are very frequent, water is now becoming very scarce. I know many of my colleagues and Members of Parliament (MPs) are attached every day to your office. I think we have upside down priorities. For one, what Wajir County needs now ... view
  • 2 Aug 2023 in Senate: Countries like Egypt and all those places where it never rains, never experience water scarcity. They depend on River Nile and we see where that river flows. In the neighbourhood of Wajir, we can have some water from Tana River, Sosiro, Balwa and all those places. view
