Kamama, regarding the number of illegal firearms issued between last year November and early February this year. He requested two weeks, yet I have not received an answer. view

Speaker, would I be in order to seek your indulgence because there are so many Statements which many Members have been seeking in this honourable House, yet we do not get them promptly. By the time they are issued, the damage has already been caused. So, I would like your indulgence to request the Chairs of all departmental committees to be consistent and, at least, make sure that they deliver these Statements at the right time. view

Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing regarding irregular demolitions. Demolition of some buildings and properties has taken place before the affected persons were given prior notice. A case in point is the recent demolition of warehouses belonging to some business people based in Thika Town. This was done despite those business people having provided services and means of livelihood to over 2,000 people in that area. Hon. Whether we use the right procedure or not, this is the only place where we can address such matters as they come up. We need to address them as they come up and ensure that they do not spread out to other places. Please, give hon. Members the platform to ventilate the matter. view

Their way forward might be withdrawing from investing in Thika Town, including Kiambu Town. A period of two weeks is long and I will not be helping them. I would like to say that this Amendment Bill has come at the right time because there before most financial institutions were either acquired or merged. In the process the public suffered a lot because they did not know when financial institutions were merged or acquired where they belonged. But this amendment Bill is timely.   • 17 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I stand to support this Bill. We have come of age. As Kenyans, we are now able to solve our own problems. Before, it was a nightmare accessing loans. Right now, with microfinance at the grassroots level we can now access our loans easily. For this reason businesses are now growing. Before, we never used to know what was expected of us even after accessing a loan. Right now, if you go to a bank you are told of the products that are being offered.   • 17 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: competition has made banks handle customers well. The people can now access funds without anybody pushing them. Women and youth meet in their groups and they are able to collect their money and take it to the financial institutions. They are able now to do business as individuals and as groups. Pursuant to Standing Order No. 44(2)(c), I wish to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Committee on Lands concerning the resettlement of squatters in Kilimambogo. In 2009, the then Minister for Lands assured the MP for Juja that the settlement of squatters would be done by the latest March 2010. A District Planning Liaison Committee was constituted to begin the process of resettlement. A Part Development Plan (PDP) was drawn and verified by all stakeholders and submitted to the Ministry of Lands Headquarters for approval in 2012. There has been no response from ... view
