Amina Abdalla

Amina has been nominated to the House more than any other politician. Her first employment was in 1993 at GTZ a German government development agency, through which she was involved in rescue work at Daadab Refugee camp in North Eastern Kenya. Her mobilization skills granted her favour with donors, and as a result the World Conservation Union employed her as a regional coordinator. In 2002 she took leave of absence from her work place to campaign for Uhuru Kenyatta, the person she owes her three nominations to parliament. Amina who is an environmental scientist encourages women to invest in political parties and explore avenues of owning them.

  • 27 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I am getting worried about the way we are dealing with amendments. In clause 3, there were two clean up amendments, but when we voted--- The area where people have a problem is the age; because there was no explanation for numerals 1 and 2; we voted against the entire amendment without understanding what it was about. • 27 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: about Clause 5 is similar, without an explanation on (1) and (2) regarding cafeteria, employees and the rest--- If we agree with him on the issue of limiting holidays to 31st July, 2015, and expanding the explanation of who are family members, we might be agreeing to an amendment that has not been explained. With your indulgence, it is possible because this is the Finance Bill; my experience is that the Finance Bill and Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill are where mischief takes place. Unless he explains everything, it is not a good thing to vote on an entire clause. view
  • 27 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I just wanted to congratulate the National Treasury for streamlining the income derived from the extractive industry. I also want to indicate that when we get to the Committee Stage of the Mining Bill we should note that we have streamlined income and avoid exemptions that mining investors will be asking for; we have given them too much in this amendment. view

  • 26 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, since the Statement request talks about the carrying out of an environmental impact assessment, and given the question that you have raised, we will be able to deal with it because it is about NEMA. If there is no environmental impact assessment that has been done, we will deal with the matter in the response. So, we will be able to give an answer in four weeks’ time. view

  • 13 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairlady, I think hon. Chepkong’a needs to give us a better explanation because there is confusion over the matter. When the issue of a petition against the Attorney-General came, the Speaker ruled from the Chair that the Attorney- General does not qualify under the title “Cabinet Secretary”. Since hon. Chepkong’a and his Committee have the details, I think he needs to go further than just stating what he has stated. We need better rationale than what he has stated. view
  • 13 Aug 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairlady, I want to align myself with the sentiments of hon. Mbadi. It is good for us to protect Kenyans in business, but 61 per cent is a bit on the upper side. History has shown us that Kenyanisation, or Africanisation, of business does not necessarily enable the youth, or young people, to join business.
