Amina Abdalla

Amina has been nominated to the House more than any other politician. Her first employment was in 1993 at GTZ a German government development agency, through which she was involved in rescue work at Daadab Refugee camp in North Eastern Kenya. Her mobilization skills granted her favour with donors, and as a result the World Conservation Union employed her as a regional coordinator. In 2002 she took leave of absence from her work place to campaign for Uhuru Kenyatta, the person she owes her three nominations to parliament. Amina who is an environmental scientist encourages women to invest in political parties and explore avenues of owning them.

  • 9 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I want to support this amendment and agree to some extent about changing this word to confidentiality. In the last Parliament, PLO Lumumba, as chair of the EACC, kept speaking of five high voltage files. My good friend Naomi Shaban was one of the people he was referring to. To this day, the high voltage file has not been seen. We take these things very lightly. The other week, one of these activists added on twitter the list of women who are corrupt. He put in those whom PLO Lumumba referred to as “high ... view
  • 9 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, the procedures of this House allow for recommittal. Some of us had put our cards in the intervention slot and were not being allowed to speak. I want to ask Hon. Kabando to declare his interest because Hon. • 9 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: you the interest Chris, relax. When Hon. Kabando was lobbying me on this matter, he told me that he wants this secretariat to go because they were unfair to his friend. view
  • 7 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity to support this amendment Bill. Unfortunately, for me, this is the third time I am amending this anti- corruption law by changing names, individuals, increasing the numbers, having a board, calling it radical surgery and many things. The situation seems to be getting worse. So, I am just wondering whether we are doing window dressing with these amendments; we are just increasing the appetite of anybody who wants to practise corruption. I say this because even if we amend the numbers, our current law is not equipped to capture the big ... view
  • 7 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: called premeditated corruption. You will never capture them. Even if you put them in a list of shame, there is nowhere a Cabinet Secretary (CS) signs. You can only capture the accounting authority. Let us tell one another the truth. We are not going anywhere with this law, as it is. In fact, I hear that there were two persons who were experts in this business of evading the EACC. They said that in Kenya all you need is to know the people holding the following four offices or know a person who knows them. You either know the person ... view
  • 7 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: paying them well, yet their cases are just hanging in the corridors of power because of not being that airtight. I believe there is something fundamentally wrong with this Bill. That is why we are unable to see any tangible results. In fact, I was doing some statistics and I noted that of the women who get as far as the court, the percentage that gets prosecuted is higher than that of males. So, I urge somebody to undertake a study to determine how most of the women who are ever charged are actually jailed. You jailed Dr. Gachara and ... view

  • 2 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I want to oppose that amendment. We must promote a culture where Kenyans accept to retire once they have given service. Just as we have term limits for presidents, we should also have term limits for chairpersons. In the case of Members of Parliament, they have no term limits. This is the only job that you can keep seeking until you feel like retiring. On a very serious note, Kenyans have problems retiring from senior positions. We need to put limits to that. view
