  • 15 Jun 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support this Motion. I thank God for giving me an opportunity to work and serve our country Kenya. As a nominated Senator, I thank Sen. Murungi for giving me the opportunity to become a Senator in the 11th Parliament. I thank the President and the Deputy President for giving me the opportunity to be the Majority Whip in this Senate. It has been a journey. I have learnt a lot. I thank all the Senators, both from the Minority and Majority side. I leave the Senate today appreciating everyone whom I have ... view
  • 25 May 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I rise to support but I also want to question my party Jubilee which has forwarded 15 names. The most important thing that we need to ask ourselves as we nominate these candidates is whether women have been considered. This is because I know that many women have worked in these political parties. These slots are not just to be given. They are to be used to appreciate those who have worked hard in their political parties. People have spent money to ensure that their political party functions. However, we are not afraid to talk about ... view

  • 4 Apr 2017 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I think it is not just the Senate Majority Leader. It is also important for the Chairpersons of Committees since we have so many reports that we have not tabled in the House. Every week we have been sending messages to our Senators but I agree with “my Senator for Kakamega” that it is wrong that we have to send ten messages to one phone for one to be in the House yet you know very well that with the new dispensation, we are here until August. You need to help ... view
  • 4 Apr 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, is my Senator in order to say what he has said? While I agree with the rest, I am not given a phone but at the same time I think we have discharged our duties. I want to tell the Senators wherever they are, that when you go for any public office, it is your duty and responsibility to prove to your electorate that you have taken a duty that you will carry to the end. We have one obligation to ensure that we send the messages but to be very honest, if we are talking ... view
  • 4 Apr 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support the report of the CPAIC on the inquiries into the financial operations of Kiambu, Busia, Tana River Trans-Nzoia, Nyandarua, Migori, Kwale, Samburu, Kisumu and Kericho counties. First, I would like to thank the Committee members and the governors who appeared to answer queries as raised by the Auditor-General. However, it is unfortunate that the report is for 2013/2014 Financial Year and we are now in 2016/2017 Financial Year. This means that the next Senate will have a big job to scrutinize accounts of 2016/2017 onwards. The queries that are being asked, ... view

  • 4 Apr 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I would like to tell my Senator that we should wait until the nominations are done, and then, we can point fingers. We have faced challenges in our hospitals regarding un-surrendered revenue. We have also had the doctors’ strike. The national and county governments should look at it. Governors have given their submissions but it is important for us to appreciate the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act. It is clear on how we collect and surrender revenue and engage transparently for people to know how much we are collecting, not just from hospitals but we also ... view
