  • 7 Aug 2018 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise to support this Report fully. I thank Members of the Committee; starting with Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr., Sen. Sakaja, my Senator who never lets Nairobi down, Sen. Kasanga, Sen. Olekina and Sen. (Prof.) Ekal for doing a good job. I thank them for appending their signatures no matter the intimidation and the threats they faced. Kudos to them; I applaud them fully. I got an opportunity to visit the area where the disaster happened. Indeed it was sad. The place where the victims used to call home is no longer home because everything was swept ... view
  • 1 Aug 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I support the amendment Bill by Sen. Cheruiyot. Indeed, he has come up with good amendments, for example to Section 32 with regard to the deputy governor. The procedures and timelines with regard to the appointment of a deputy governor are indicated very well in the Bill. I would urge the Senator to add another amendment on how to appoint another deputy governor after the previous one resigns. He should also give timelines for it. I am talking about the situation that we currently have in Nairobi City County. There is no clause in this ... view

  • 26 Jul 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, pursuant to Standing Order No. 46(2) (a), I rise to make a Statement on an issue of general topical concern regarding the recent cases of evictions of persons who had encroached the Mau Forest Complex. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, Kenya’s closed canopy forest cover currently stands at approximately 1.7 per cent of the country’s total land area. This is low compared to other African countries, with an average 9.3 per cent and the world with an average of 21.4 per cent. Most of the closed canopy forests in Kenya are mountain forests and are the nation’s ... view
  • 25 Jul 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I support the Statement by the Senate Majority Leader. It is unfortunate and shameful for the Members of the National Assembly. I think they have forgotten their mandate. I want to remind them that they were not elected to oversight or discuss the Senate. By doing so, it means that they do not have ideas. I am here courtesy of devolution to represent Kenyan citizens, protect the interest of women as well as that of the counties. We are here to participate in law making function of Parliament by considering, debating and approving Bills ... view
  • 19 Jul 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this important Motion. I thank Sen. Kasanga for coming up with this Motion. As we know, roads are the major mode of transport suited for carrying people and goods in rural areas. These same roads are of vital importance in order to make a nation grow and develop. Without roads, we cannot even develop as a country. A reliable and well maintained road system offers access to businesses, health, employment and even education, all of which stimulate economic and social development in an area. A fail in ... view

  • 6 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Pursuant to Standing Order No.46(2)(a), I rise to make a statement on an issue of general topical concern regarding the rise in the number of collapsing buildings in the country. I make this statement because a number of buildings crumbling due to structural defects, among other causes, have become rampant in the country, leaving a trail of death and destruction. People have been injured. Scores of people have been left homeless and others have lost their lives. These incidents have raise questions on whether the requisite construction standards were observed. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, ... view
