  • 10 May 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity to support the Insurance (Amendment) Bill, 2017. This Bill is intended to firm up the services given by insurance companies. Since insurance is about compensation, it is a good thing that these amendments have been brought forth. If we pass this Bill, insurance firms will be required to have a stipulated amount of money as capital. This is because many insurance firms look for excuses not to pay persons, but when you dig deep you realize that it is because they lack resources. Secondly, for any insurance firm to be registered ... view
  • 10 May 2017 in National Assembly: Regulating the insurance service is something that is key. Under Clause 31 there is a proposed amendment that no person shall be registered unless they are living in Kenya and they have the required assets. The world has become a global village. Members of Parliament travel abroad quite often. It is important that we access these services even when we are out of the country. I am happy about the amendments that specifically touch on the functions of the board concerning the insurance. We pass many laws here. The Ministry also makes policies and comes up with regulations. However, without ... view

  • 10 May 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this very important amendment to the National Police Service Act to include medical care for police officers who are injured while on duty. Of course, we all know the work that the police officers do in protecting us and also in maintaining law and order. They need to be taken care of when they get injured while on duty. I think the emphasis here is not only while they are still in service but even after service because they got the injuries while serving this country. ... view

  • 10 May 2017 in National Assembly: Secondly, as we talk about compensation of family members, in most of the cases male police officers are usually the breadwinners of their families. Once they are rendered invalid, they cannot perform their duties or earn a salary and the members of their family languish in poverty. I support this idea of compensating families. In line with that, they should ensure that family records are well maintained. I know that when one is employed, one is supposed to fill forms showing the next of kin and who the family members are. However, in the course of performing duty, dependants increase ... view

  • 10 May 2017 in National Assembly: them are not updated. I support the regular updating of records so that in case of loss of lives of these police officers, it is clear right from his intentions who his family members are. We are aware of cases in Kenya where when one dies, several people come forward as wives and children and you cannot tell who are the right people to be compensated. This should not be the case with police officers only. Everyone including honourable Members of Parliament need to be aware of this and state their rightful next of kin and those who should be ... view

  • 22 Mar 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for this opportunity to also add my voice to the comments made by my colleagues on the State of the Nation Address by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya. From the outset, I wish to congratulate His Excellency the President for the articulate information he provided within the very short time he had to address the nation in this Parliament. The President’s Address touched on all sectors of the economy: the social and political development and of course, he did not forget to mention the challenges such as corruption ... view
