In accordance to Section 16 of the Statutory Instruments Act, 2013, the Committee had a meeting with the regulating making authority on 1st February 2021 – the Cabinet Secretary responsible for the National Treasury and Planning. I wish to record my appreciation to the Committee Members and this House for enormously supporting the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Regulations 2020; that is Legal Notice No.188 of 2020. I have heard the comments from Members especially on digitization of VAT. Members would wish to get timely refunds and have stated that this will catch up with tax cheats. The previous regime was very untidy, cumbersome and archaic. Once we digitize, we will be moving in sync with the rest of the world. view
