  • 31 Oct 2024 in Senate: and the end result. I therefore request KFS that during the harvesting of trees, especially in forests, they should only harvest mature trees and avoid harvesting indigenous trees like the Mugumo Tree. The Mugumo Tree is very important in the Kikuyu Culture. There are trees like Simatwet in Nandi, which is a sacred tree. I also heard Moringa is important. There are trees that have both cultural and medicinal value. For us, Simatwet is very important in our culture. Even as we allow logging and the lifting of the moratorium of access to logging in public forests, we should be ... view
  • 31 Oct 2024 in Senate: I encourage all of us that when you are driving your car and you have taken your water or soda or have eaten something, do not litter or throw trash along the road that dirties our environment. The country should be mindful the way the President has talked about the use of electric motor vehicles, even when it comes to the energy we consume or use. With those remarks, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am proud to second this Environment Laws (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bills No. 23 of 2024). view

  • 30 Oct 2024 in Senate: Yes, that is interesting. I have just two comments. I want to support the Statement by Sen. Kathuri Murungi on the issue of the Public Service Commission (PSC). Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not see the need for giving internships to the youth and then you fail to absorb them, yet you have used Government resources. I want to appeal to the Government and the PSC, that most of the young people who are given internships in public service should be reabsorbed, noting that a 5.7 per cent unemployment rate in the Republic is still a challenge. • 30 Oct 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. A quick one to the Cabinet Secretary. Can you tell us, after the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams, what is the population of Grade 9 and the number of teachers that are needed? In addition, tell us the subject that every teacher shall be teaching, bearing in mind that the Cabinet Secretary has said in his answer that the Government is employing 20,000 interns? • 30 Oct 2024 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I thank you for giving me this opportunity. From the onset, I want to congratulate you on this wonderful Bill. As the champions of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), this is one way we will build the capacity and ability of MCAs, who are the leaders at mashinani. As I have said before when an issue occurs in a village, the first people that the ordinary wananchi run to are normally the MCAs. From issues of funeral bills, harambee, people giving birth in hospitals and other social work responsibilities. The role of MCAs is important because ... view
