Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you for that information. As you are aware Sen. Olekina just turned 47 years old the other day and he seems to be growing wiser by the day. I appreciate those comments. My fourth point is that there is the issue of a military takeover. We need to be careful. As a country, there is a process of deploying the military. The ongoing militarisation of Government and civil public institutions is saddening. As a country we do not have to militarise every problem we face. Before we know it this Parliament could become militarised and ...

Therefore, I urge the DCI and DPP in my concluding remarks that they should stop playing public relations exercise by saying DCI and DPP does not see eye to eye. It is none of our business. Our business is when they prosecute cases. They should not be going to the media and newspapers and saying DPP wants to be removed; the DCI does not see eye to eye with DPP. That is none of our business. These are perpetrators of horrendous crimes. This is genocide because most Kenyans die because of lack of masks and oxygen. It is like dancing ...

Madam Deputy Speaker, I did not know Sen. Olekina can be this humble. I rise to support this Statement by Sen. (Dr.) Lang’at. The arbitrary increase of fees in the universities is a cause of alarm. Madam Deputy Speaker, you were a principal of a constituent college and a lecturer in university. I am sure you appreciate the fact that most parents are struggling with these hard economic times. If there is fee increment, it will always affect the accessibility to education. The cardinal rule is the right of every Kenyan to access higher education, which should always be affordable ...

universities are facing financial crisis. The Auditor-General has flagged out Kenyatta University (KU) and the University of Nairobi over a Kshs4.2 billion losses. Most of the universities including Egerton and Moi university are in the red because of the debt they owe to debtors. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology should call for a consensus on how we can ensure that our universities are not debt riddled.

Even as the Ministry of Education calls for a consensus on how we can ensure that our universities are not debt ridden, they should also be innovative on how they can generate their own income in one way or another. They should even use other means to ensure self-reliance because you have seen how most lecturers and workers within the university are going on strike. Egerton University is on strike. We have seen so many notices of strike by the institutions of higher learning. Madam Deputy Speaker, I really want to plead that the Ministry of Education apart from addressing ...

Is it in order for Sen. Olekina to say Sen. (Dr.) Langat is the Chairperson yet we know he is not the Chairperson?

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity. I would like to congratulate and thank Sen. Cheruiyot for bringing this Statement on the issues of multinationals. Kericho, Nandi and Bomet are largely affected by these issues of multinationals, tea leases and other forms of leases. Since the Constitution 2010, the National Land Commission, the county government and national governments have been silent and they have not been telling Kenyans what happened with 999-years leases that were committed to 99 years lease as per the 2010 promulgation Constitution. This is very important and I would like to request the committee of ...

We would also like to know the role of the National Land Commission (NLC) and what the national Government is doing. Finally, as I conclude, most of these multinationals can only be dealt with by the national Government, because most owners of multinationals are either based in Europe or America. Therefore, the national Government must be at the forefront in fighting for us. When it comes to renewal, change or expiry of leases, the lessor and the lessee must be known. Some people in the leadership have been saying that the leases expired in 2014. Now they are saying that ...
