  • 12 Jun 2019 in Senate: a Member of that Ad hoc Committee on maize and invite the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries to look at those recommendations. They are good and we fully support them in Nandi, Uasin-Gishu, Trans Nzoia and the rest of Kenya, where maize is planted. We hope that the Galana-Kulalu Irrigation Scheme will be shut down. Let that money that was going to that Scheme be used in the North Rift – Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties - to improve maize growing in this country. view
  • 11 Jun 2019 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I agree that the direction you gave was necessary considering that there are many issues. However, in terms of reply, we still need to stick to the timelines because some of the Government agencies and the people that are supposed to get back to the chairpersons need adequate time to consult. By the time we are engaging the Senator concerned on a statement that had been sought, it should be adequate. Secondly, I agree with my colleagues that you should create exceptional circumstances because some of the things are urgent and important. I therefore agree with my ... view
  • 11 Jun 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I want to join my colleagues in welcoming the delegation from the Parliament of Sierra Leone. I think we met in Uganda and it was very interesting to learn about Sierra Leone. As our Majority Whip has said, as Africans, we should have more common approaches that are not limited to trade, democracy and gender issues, but also how we partner as parliamentarians. That is why we are comfortable working through Commonwealth parliamentary groups than within Africa. I hope that this will bring interlink and togetherness as Africans, so that we appreciate that there is ... view
  • 6 Jun 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I have two issues: The first one concerns the Petition by Sen. Mwaura on the fight against corruption. We are almost done with the amendments and as the Chairperson of the Committee on Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights, I want to assure him that we are doing all that we can to dispense with the Petition. On the Petition on Karebe Gold Mine in Chemelil-Chemase--- view

  • 6 Jun 2019 in Senate: Yes, Mr. Speaker, Sir. It is a point of order. I need clarification on the Petition on the Karebe Gold Mine. It was taken to the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare but when I talked to the Chairperson of the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, Sen. Sakaja, he told me that he had referred that Petition to other Committees; the Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources and the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. I need your guidance on that Petition because we need to put that matter to rest. view
  • 6 Jun 2019 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Is it in order for Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr., to allege that the confusion is the handshake and yet the Chairperson of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Hon. Mbadi, stated – this is in the public domain – that the Opposition is now the chief advisor of the Government? view
  • 6 Jun 2019 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I want to add my voice that the issue of replacing the 8-4-4 system of education with Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is good intention. However, the application has been very poor. One of its aims is digital literacy. If digital literacy is to be implemented yet the laptop programme has flopped, how will we be able to succeed? These are some of the key issues. Article 10 of the Constitution is on the issues of national values and principles of good governance. It calls for proper consultation. This programme was implemented in a huff. There ... view
  • 6 Jun 2019 in Senate: Teachers (KNUT), Secretary-General, Hon. Sossion. We, as a country, need to have an honest conversation with all stakeholders on CBC. Finally, let us stop using force to implement CBC. It is sad that these people are fighting teachers who are supposed to implement CBC. Any CS in this country is imagining or thinking that when he uses force or display machismo in public, makes a lot of noise and does not have the reverse gear, then he or she will be the most popular and the most celebrated CS in this country. We want to call upon the CS, Prof. ... view
  • 6 Jun 2019 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I beg to move: THAT, the Bill be amended by deleting Clause 3 and substituting therefor the following new clause - view
