  • 10 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: is a drug or not a drug is something that we need to know more about. It is something that we have been saying, but we are not aware what it does or what it is; whether it is medicinal or whether it is a drug like beer or cigarettes. It is not very clear. But what I have learnt as a person is from documentaries that have emerged, or that have highlighted what miraa does to people. I remember seeing one on television last year. I think it was a long documentary on miraa . It was a very ... view

  • 10 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: I was just about to finish, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I want to say that research will give us a lot of information about miraa . I am very keen on the effect of education. As an educationist, I feel that this needs to be highlighted in the study so that we see whether it is true that boys and girls are dropping out of school to get into the miraa business; that they are dropping out too early before they complete their view

  • 2 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Motion, which is very timely and important for our entire country. It is not just floods that we experience year in, year out, but we experience many other disasters that equally require national attention. There are a lot of fire outbreaks, diseases, drought, violence and even collapse of buildings. Many times when this happens, the face of the Government is very limited. You do not see much of what the Government is doing and you tend to see the Red Cross and several NGOs. It ... view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Motion on the appointment of these judges. I am a Member of the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. We went through this very diligently. The CVs were excellent. We were dealing with people of great distinction. Their experience is really wonderful. I think it is a great pride for Kenyans to have these judges because of their background, experience and the roles they have played in their own countries. They have an impressive record. In fact, as you read their CVs you just enjoy doing so. This is ... view
  • 5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I am very passionate about that disease in trying to see that it is well understood by communities and that they need to respond quickly and seek medical care. Many people have died of that disease. It has no respect for anybody and so, we are all vulnerable to it. I wish to say that not many people know what it is. They believe it is a long-term illness that takes you to your grave because it is very difficult to treat. It is a disease associated with death. There is a lot of fear ... view
  • 15 May 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for this opportunity. This is a topic that is dear to my heart because I have seen many people in my area suffer greatly. There are many problems that I have noticed. It is not just long- term illnesses. Those old people are also abused. Many of them are accused of bewitching other peoples’ children. I have read many times in newspapers that they are killed. A lot of their property is also snatched by their relatives and yet, those are very important and senior members of our society. Back at home, many ... view
