  • 20 Sep 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am really surprised by what the Cabinet Secretary is talking about. She says they are registering PWDs, the vulnerable and the elderly. Marsabit County; the largest county in this Republic, is experiencing a lot of problems. The people who are meant to be registered are being asked to provide fuel for Government vehicles. In some instances, there are no vehicles to even register people. A place like Ileret is 400 kilometres from Marsabit and 200 kilometres from the nearest constituency which is North Horr. PWDs, with no food in their stomachs and no water ... view

  • 19 Sep 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I rise to support this Motion by Sen. Faki. I would like to address this issue in two ways. First, is the issue of Lamu County. As you are aware, I am the Chairperson of the Committee on National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration. The issue of Lamu is very dangerous. What is happening is that the al-Shabaab is getting through to Lamu youth and recruiting them because there is an issue between the communities living in Lamu and the communities who have lived there and have just been brought some time back. They ... view
  • 19 Sep 2023 in Senate: The question we must ask ourselves is whether it is the Government policy to support AMISOM and send our military forces to Somalia while we are not secure in Kenya. Are we supposed to secure Somalia or our country, Kenya? You could be more secure in Somalia than in Kenya. The question we should ask this Government is; strategically, is it in our interest to be in Somalia today? It is not. This Government should tell us the number of officers we have lost since the 1998 al Qaeda Bombing. Also, we have lost many teachers and civilians through terror ... view

  • 31 Aug 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Today, I am happy to see the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill (National Assembly Bills No.42 of 2023) before the Senate. I have already proposed a Bill which is supposed to come before this House on carbon credits. In Marsabit County, we have the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project in Loiyangalani, Laisamis Constituency. Carbon credits are also called carbon offsets. It is a measurable and a result-based way of companies to support activities which are governed in other countries by respective regulations. Today, I am also happy that we have regulations being put in place to ... view
  • 31 Aug 2023 in Senate: Carbon credits are today worth $80 dollars, equivalent to 1000 kgs of emissions of carbon dioxide. Carbon credits are the difference between carbon emission and the allowed actual-emitted carbon. There are two types of carbon credits. The first one is for those people who emit or pollute our environment. This is a way of being punished by being given hefty fees or penalties to pay. The second one is for those who are reducing carbon credits or emissions. All these are called carbon credits. Mr. Speaker, Sir, in Marsabit County we have the Northern Rangeland Trust (NRT) who are discounting ... view
