  • 24 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I also stand to support this Bill. I think this is one of the most important statutes that we are going to have in this country, after a long time. I echo the sentiments of the Member of Parliament for Naivasha, who has just spoken; sometimes you find that most of the people who are serving sentences in jail, even today, ended up there not because they intended to be there, but because there was a mistake somewhere. It is because of our court procedures these days that they end up in some of those places, ... view
  • 24 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I stand to support this Bill. The Bill we have in front of us is another document which will mark a big step in our country, especially in protection of our environment. I would like to congratulate the Minister for Lands and the Minister for Environment and Mineral Resources for the good work they have done in this country. view
  • 24 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, going straight to the point, you are aware that in this country, we have had issues of climate change and degradation issues. We have had a lot of issues, especially on the eastern side of the Aberdares with most of the rivers drying up because of people planting eucalyptus trees which is very dangerous and takes up all the water. We did not have anywhere to go because any one time we ever tried to handle that issue, there was a lot of resistance from wananchi who did not want to uproot their eucalyptus trees which ... view
  • 11 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I have listened to the Minister carefully. Is he in order to insist that he will not pay the teachers because they do not have mobile phones? I think these teachers do not have mobile phones and that is why they cannot give their mobile phone numbers. Will the Minister make sure that those teachers are given mobile phones so that he can pay them through that? view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is shocking to hear the Assistant Minister say that the ban was lifted because the local processing plants do not have the capacity. Is he aware that we have a factory in Murang’a which is operating below capacity because of lack of nuts in this country? That is because most of them are exported to other countries. view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Assistant Minister in order to lie to this House--- view
  • 10 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: Is the Assistant Minister in order to mislead this House by saying that the price of macadamia has gone down to Kshs10 while we very well know that the price of macadamia nuts is Kshs90 to Kshs95 per kilogramme? view
  • 9 Aug 2011 in National Assembly: If I understood the Minister properly, he says Ms. Clara was found with documents relating to Al-Shabaab operatives. Could he tell the House what action he has taken against those Al-Shabaab operative s ? It is a grave issue when he says she was in accompany of those operatives and he is the Minister responsible for Registration of Persons and Immigration in this country. view
  • 27 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to ask for a small clarification. The Prime Minister is aware that due to the prolonged drought, we have total crop failure in most of the sectors, especially the maize and coffee growing areas. Most of these farmers had taken loans from the Agricultural Finance Corporation (AFC) and because of the crop failure, most of them will not be able to repay the loans. Could the Government consider writing off these debts? The farmers will not be able to repay the loans with the returns they are going to get from the produce. view
  • 20 Jul 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, most of our contractors are being forced to close shop because of the Government’s failure to pay for contracts which have been awarded to them. How much money does the Government owe the contractor who is on site, and when does he expect to pay the whole amount? view
