  • 25 Nov 2018 in Senate: Thank you Madam Temporary Speaker. I take this opportunity to welcome the MCA Women Association from Machakos County to this House. I acknowledge the fact that women are an entity that will change this world. The other day, I was in the African Youth Conference at the United Nations offices. I urged them to shift focus from women to youth. The kind of missiles that I received is a story for another day. This is an example to us, as men. We have been challenged. We will also form a men’s association in the Senate. I am sure we shall ... view
  • 7 Nov 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I stand to support this Petition. As the Senate Majority Leader has alluded, this is a well-thought-out Petition. It does not limit itself to coffee, tea and macadamia. The problem is affects all crops. I support the sentiments of the Senate Majority Leader that we need to look at agriculture with a microscopic eye. Under the Fourth Schedule of our Constitution, agriculture is a devolved function. I am emphasizing on the issue of not having one entity handling all crops. We need an entity to deal with the sugar industry and another one with the maize industry. However, we need to focus on the problems in the agriculture sector. The first problem that our farmers have is lack of market. We do not ... view
  • 7 Nov 2018 in Senate: encourage contractual farming, in the sense that before a farmer gets into sorghum or sugar farming they should be assured of the market. Mr. Speaker, Sir, recently, I had a farmers‘ convention in Lugari Constituency. Since Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) is opening a plant in Kisumu County, I encourage all the farmers in Kakamega and the western region in general to ensure that they are contracted by the company. Kenya Breweries Limited is willing to contract farmers before we start farming. Lastly, the second problem that the farmers have is the existence of middlemen and brokers. In the recent maize ... view
  • 6 Nov 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I stand to support this Bill. I also want to congratulate the Members of the Committee who elaborately tackled all the issues that pertain to data protection. I also want to extend my congratulatory remarks to the Senator who introduced this Bill to the House, Sen. Halake because she simplified its content. This Bill provides for collection of data, how it should be handled and protected. The most important bit in this Bill is the issue of misuse of personal data and general data. In the past, we have seen people collecting data and ... view
