I note that disability is the umbrella term for all impairments of the body structure or functions. It is limitation in activities and tasks that a person does, or a restriction in participation. That defines what disability is. This is a very good Bill because it will enable people with disability to be recognised and registered. • 10 May 2022 in National Assembly: and dumb yet they are supposed to go through the same national examination process. The examination is the same as that of an abled person. The education system should recognise that and maybe, even give them more time to study or set different exams for people with challenges so that they are given enough time to concentrate on their studies and exams. Other than doing the exams in one hour, they can be given two hours to complete their exams because they have some difficulties. This Bill is coming at the right time. • 10 May 2022 in National Assembly: Since we are leaders, we should be role models by setting a good example to other employers, by employing some of these persons with disabilities in our NG-CDF offices. By doing so, we will be acting in good faith and it will be a good example to other employers. I am sorry to our colleague, Hon. Sankok. If he were here, he would have contributed a lot to this Bill. I am supporting it with interest in children with disabilities. Disability has different classes. There are children who have very severe disabilities. These have not been taken care of in this Bill. These children have very severe disabilities such that they cannot even talk, walk and move. They are just put on beds or wheelchairs. I have come across these children in my constituency. • 6 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: Granting social assistance to support such children through their guardians or parents will strengthen the families financially. That is why I am proposing that, through the National Social Security Fund, these children be given special attention so that their parents and guardians can be getting some funds. This will assist these children and ensure that their parents have some income. These parents will even have some money which can be used to hire people to take care of the children as the parents or guardians are freed to do other meaningful activities. I am also proposing an enhancement to the definition of the terms “severe disability” because of what I have explained and an enhancement to the provisions on county governments to ensure that they provide services to children with severe disabilities and neurological development disorders free of charge. There are many advantages of alumnus being involved in the running of universities. They can serve as role models and mentor our students because they went through the same education system in the universities.
