  • 23 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I appreciate that consideration. I want to support this Report by His Excellency the President. The threats to our national security that he has laid out are not unique to this country, they are universal. The only place that we need to address them is how we can sort them out. I want to quote what Nelson Mandela talked about; that is Ubuntu . Ubuntu in South Africa means humanity towards others or the universal mode of sharing as connectivity to humanity. Our national values and principles as everybody has talked about are founded on ... view
  • 23 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: I can see Hon. Gikaria nodding because I understand he was in court with some people. We were even threatened that we would not be reelected to Parliament. If we do not love one another, we do not care because we just want to make an extra shilling without bearing in mind how much it will cost our neighbours or even the country. We must be ruthless when dealing with these people, if we must move forward. view
  • 23 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, we are talking about food insecurity yet environmental degradation is ongoing. All villages in this country have saw millers with timbers from our forests. The Aberdare Range and Mount Kenya are now deserts. How can we solve the problem of food insecurity if we are degrading our environment by licensing people to cut trees? We have contributed to food insecurity because we are not mindful of our environment, which has a way of paying us back. I would also like to talk about smuggled and counterfeit goods. How do you harass hawkers in small towns claiming that ... view
  • 23 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: is the way to go because if we love one another, we will not have these issues. view
  • 22 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I beg to support the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 2) Bill of 2016. I will speak on only two items. One of them is Section 8(a), on employment, which speaks about registration and maintaining integration of all Kenyan immigrant workers. We have had a lot of issues with our young people, especially when they go to some countries. We hear that some of them have come back in coffins. Section (d) approves pre-departure programmes and ensures that Kenyan migrants undergo the relevant pre-departure preparation. This is relevant because as we understand, we cannot employ all ... view
  • 22 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: I am guided, Hon. Speaker. I will wait for Order No.16 to debate the matters raised therein. In the meantime, I support the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill (Bill No. 2 of 2016). Thank you. view
  • 22 Feb 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Today is my lucky day. I support this policy. Maintaining buildings ensures that there is longevity in buildings. It also ensures durability and sustainability. I, therefore, thank the Committee for ensuring that this Sessional Paper has come at this time. I am sure within the policy the safety of users is included. In doing that, it also includes persons with disability and people who need wide spaces or ramps to move their wheelchairs, and those who need bars on the staircases, so that they can have something to hold on to. Maintenance is important ... view
  • 1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I also wish to support the ratification of this Agreement on climate change. Even as we ratify it, we must also have home- grown solutions because ratification of a protocol is not good enough. We must look at the problems that affect us and seek to resolve them. Indeed, climate change is going to be one of the world’s biggest challenges as there would be competition between wildlife and human beings. There is competition for water, food and other things. As we do this, we must also urge the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources ... view
  • 1 Dec 2016 in National Assembly: We must also start educating our children right from a tender age that we need forests for our survival. This is a good thing and I am hoping that climate fund is provided in Kenya, through NEMA or through the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. It should be replicated all the way to the village level; to the women who trek many miles as they look for water for their families. We must also look for solutions so that we do not just look at wood as the only source of energy. Let us look at trees as the ... view
  • 30 Nov 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I thank Mheshimiwa for bringing this Bill because he is aligning everything to the protocols we have signed. What I like most is that he has defined who a refugee is. One thing I would like him to look at when it goes to the Committee of the whole House is that as we look at the issue of refugees, we should not ignore the issue of the host community. I say this in connection with the community in Daadab and in the evil areas, where refugees were seen to be better off than the ... view
