Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity. I rise to support Hon. Mutunga, the sponsor of this Motion on registration of farmers and formation of agribusiness entities. The farmers of this country are not known. Therefore, there is no data on farm sizes and types of farming that is available in this country. That is why we have issues with our farmers because the types of crops they produce are not known. Therefore, we even have gaps on what we are producing and what we import from other countries. An example is maize. We do not know how ...

becomes too low and they make losses. If farmers are registered in this country, we will know how much we will need for livestock feeds. However, when we do not have the data for the farmers, that is where we have the gap and livestock feeds are not catered for. When we come to cash crops, coffee is ailing in this country because we do not even know how many small-scale farmers are in this country. The large-scale farmers do not also have associations. They cannot have a voice for the market. In 1980s, Kenya was producing over 180,000 metric ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. I rise to oppose this amendment, which is very emotive. The moment we start thinking as Kenyans and not as tribes, such issues will not be debated.

In my constituency, I represent people from various areas like Mombasa, Wajir and others. So, the moment we start thinking as Kenyans, we will stop debating such issues. In my constituency, I have people from Mandera and Kisumu. We are telling them to be counted where they live and work.

Hon. Speaker, I rise to ask Question 209/2019 to the Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development. (i) Is the Cabinet Secretary aware that the 15-kilometre Nyega-Kiambururu-Kamuchege Road in Githunguri Constituency is in a deplorable state and impassable? (ii) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain why the construction of the said road to bitumen standards stalled, despite the project being awarded in June 2016? Thank you, Hon. Speaker.

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to also add my voice on the President’s Speech during the State of the Nation Address. To begin with, the President recognised our great men and women of various disciplines in this nation who have kept the Kenyan flag flying high at international events and bringing glory to our nation. The President recognised Mwalimu Peter Tabichi, who was voted as the best teacher in the whole world. That is a clear indication that Kenya can even do better than what we are today. On agriculture, the President noted that ...

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. We have seen eggs being imported all the way from China. Kenya produces over 1.2 billion eggs, but the consumption of eggs in Kenya is less than 1 billion per year. Therefore, we are supposed to export and not import eggs. It is the same case with dairy farmers. I expected the President to talk about those issues. I still hope that the Cabinet Secretaries for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and Trade, Industry and Cooperatives will help the farmers to avoid closing down their businesses.
