12 May 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I was narrating that we supported that regime to come to power in 2002. However, in 2005, we were sacked by the same regime just because we differed in principle. We did not support the Constitution that was being pushed on to Kenyans at that particular time. I tell Sen. Murkomen and Sen. Kihika that their future is bright. Msife moyo . Soldier on and accept. You cannot fight systems. There is only one individual that I know who has done that over the years and has survived. Please do not walk that path.

Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am talking about the party system. The same system that fired them. They cannot fight that.

28 Apr 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for the opportunity. I rise pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order No.47(1) to make a Statement on a matter of national concern, namely; the response of the Government to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), to cushion and alleviate suffering of citizens, particularly in terms of accountability of Government spending, enforcement of preventive measures by security agents and socioeconomic support to the vulnerable. Mr. Speaker, Sir, as we are all aware, Coronavirus is currently the biggest health and socioeconomic challenge of our time. I appreciate the direction taken by the Senate to form an A ...

28 Apr 2020 in Senate:
Having said that, let me state that the common mwananchi has not felt the Government support. I speak so for Vihiga, a county that I represent in this Senate. I know that the same story goes for most counties. Various leaders have tried to offer food aid and sanitation material to their constituents, but honestly, this is not sustainable. It is a tall order for an individual to feed the whole constituency or county for a week, let alone months. The small food donations can only last a day or two. Also recognizing the danger posed by the logistics of ...

authority. Kenya needs a police service that serves the people and protects human life not the trigger-happy police who will injure their fellow countrymen at any encounter. This notwithstanding, there are numerous police officers who are doing a superb job and we need to congratulate them. Majority of Kenyans are struggling to survive from paying their financial obligations such as loans and rent to meeting daily basic needs. Businesses have been affected negatively at all levels, people have lost jobs and their sources of livelihood as companies close or send employees on unpaid leave. The situation has further been complicated ...

14 Apr 2020 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I support the Statement raised by the Senior Counsel, Sen. Orengo. I watched that clip in horror. It was traumatizing and it left me wondering how his family felt about it. I support Sen. Orengo because I want the Ministry of Health to give a proper explanation as to why that had to happen to that gentleman and his family. That will help us avoid such an occurrence in the future. I was also disgusted by the way in which the mainstream media kept on repeating the clip. The sight of what happened is not ...

14 Apr 2020 in Senate:
On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Maybe I ought to have risen before Sen. Sakaja moved the Report. The matter that I am rising on is pertinent to what we are discussing now. I want to state that the resolutions made by this House, the Rulings made and the directions given by the Speaker cannot be in vain. For us to succeed in the fight against this pandemic, of course, we must all come together and fight as one. Sen. Cheruiyot raised a matter here when you sat on that Chair two weeks ago. I was not here, ...

Mr. Speaker, Sir, on my own behalf and on behalf of the distinguished Senator for Bungoma, Sen. Wetangula, who is out of the country on official duty, I join you in welcoming the young learners from Ndivisi Girls High School. I wish them a fruitful stay, wish them well in their studies particularly those who will sit for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams this year. We wish them success. They are in the right place. This is the Senate of the Republic of Kenya where debate is guided by logic. We do our things constitutionally unlike other ...
