  • 3 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I would like to thank Members for their very useful contributions to this Motion. Most of the Members have spoken to our competitiveness as a country and an investment destination. They have spoken about how our tax regime supports all that. As a Committee dealing with finance, we will endeavour to ensure that even as we introduce new taxes or adjust our taxation regime, we adhere to making Kenya the most attractive investment destination in the region. I thank Members for their kind remarks. I beg to reply. view

  • 19 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Looking at the policy on recruitment of teachers, it appears, on the face of it, to be very good. However, there are two problems which need to be addressed. All the teachers being recruited have passed through teacher training colleges. In fact, for primary school teachers, in particular, the P1 teachers, some of them have gone through Government teacher training colleges. They have gone through practicals. I remember I was a pupil in a school which used to host these teachers, and they are graded properly. The ideal situation should be that when teachers are trained ... view
  • 19 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: is serving no purpose. However, the idea that you are subjecting people who have qualified through teacher training colleges to things you are calling interviews to grade them, it is a big corruption. view
  • 19 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: I have followed up this thing in Homa Bay Town that if you do not have something like Kshs300,000, you will not be recruited. So, the poor people are languishing yet when you walk around schools, those people who are not recruited are teaching freely and their subjects are the best performing ones. So, I request that in as much as we have a comprehensive response, we need to sit down again not just to confirm that the policies are good, but to also hear cries coming from Kenyans so that we have a recruitment system which is fair and ... view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I am a Christian and the Bible tells me that when God created man, He never declared Sabbath. But when He created a woman, he looked down and she was beautiful and He declared the following day to be a day of rest. No creation was done again. It is very strange that being a predominantly Christian The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 10 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: country – and I know we also have our Muslim brothers - we are this late in the day still talking about FGM. I have listened to the contributions today and most of the time, I was emotional hearing colleagues in this House talk about their experiences around FGM. I have listened to medical practitioners and the medical ill-effect of FGM. It has been so explicitly put. What I hear all Members saying is that there is no benefit at all to be derived from FGM. It is something that is outright repugnant. While seated here, I was looking at ... view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: them. We are being told here today that some cultures push girls to be mutilated and yet, the men from those cultures hide and go for girls who are not circumcised elsewhere. It is a negative cultural socialization that we have in this country. I have heard people asking why some people in Kenya do not circumcise. Why do I need to circumcise when I live by the lake? Why should I circumcise when I am in my room in Nairobi with water flowing? Let us now look at the negative effects of this practice. Now that the whole society ... view
  • 5 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I could raise it after he is done. Noting from the time the debate started everybody is supporting, I was asking that considering the weight of the Order Paper we see before the House today, will we be right to move that the Mover be called to reply? view
