Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady. I support the amendment. I am an engineer by profession. You remember we had issues with the Bill in the first place. Our able Chairman listened to us and withdrew the Bill to allow further consultations. I want to congratulate him. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor.

You can imagine an engineer leading lawyers. It would have made our profession a funny one. This is a win for the country and for all professions. Let engineers be. Let lawyers be. Let medics be. Let people respect their professions. I thank the House, our Chairman and the Committee for listening to the public on the contentious issues that were in the Bill. Thank you very much.

Over 89 Kenyans have died abroad in the past two years, and all of them are due to cardiac arrest related diseases. Both the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have failed in protecting Kenyans who are working outside. Kenyan labourers abroad need urgent protection. The Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare should take this matter very seriously to ensure that a proper and clear recommendation on ensuring our people are safe is going to be brought to this House. Many of our youth resort to labour migration due to high unemployment rates ...

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. On the issue of GMOs, the high cost of feeds drives farmers out of the dairy and poultry industry. It is true that the more we receive imports from outside countries, the more it makes the dairy and poultry industry very expensive. The price of animal feeds has gradually been increasing and farmers barely make profits. Hon. Speaker, it is worrying that in Kenya, a litre of water cost Kshs109 while a litre of milk goes for Kshs32. It does not make sense since water is just purified, bottled and sold unlike milk which you must ...

Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, from the Report of the Committee, there are new terms that have come to be known today. There is something called “global oil prices” that has gone up. The simple question is: Are Uganda and Tanzania not part of the global community? Why is it that in Kenya petroleum products cost three times higher than they do in Uganda and Tanzania? Secondly, the landing costs and taxes contribute to 50 per cent of the retail price. There is also storage cost and a new term called “sizes of the vessels” which are in metric tonnes. There ...

(Chepalungu, CCM) Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Mine is on Hon. Mwashetani’s Petition. The respect for title deeds in this country is very important. I want to give an instance of what happened to a majority of the Kipsigis in the Mau. Some of them were issued with title deeds and they have never been compensated. You find that the Minister for Environment called them mere papers. Are there title deeds in this country that are metallic or made of iron? All of them are made of papers. They should be compensated. We are not saying that they should go back ...
