  • 13 Mar 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, if it was not the case that was filed by one of the suppliers of fertilizer, the fertilizer would have been there even three weeks before people started preparing for planting. So, what I can assure the House is that we will advance--- view
  • 13 Mar 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the price is Kshs2,500 for DAP and Kshs1,600 for CAN. That price should prevail until the Government advices otherwise. But that is the price. view
  • 13 Mar 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I will do so! view
  • 8 Mar 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we will issue the Statement on Thursday, next week. view
  • 29 Feb 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) The term of Eng. Julius Nyarotho was revoked by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya vide Kenya Gazette Notice No.8003 dated 15th July, 2011. (b) A chairman appointed by the President to a State corporation shall be non executive and earns monthly honoraria and sitting allowance only, hence the issue of compensation does not arise. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we dealt with this Question fully, but the Member wanted to know why the appointment was revoked. There is a letter to this effect and I have told the ... view
  • 29 Feb 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as far as the Question is concerned, we have dealt with it extensively and I have discussed with the hon. Member some of the reasons. I will table it, even though I am not supposed to do this, so that he can understand the gravity of the whole issue. So, I do not see why we should defer it. view
  • 29 Feb 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I second the amendment. I want to talk about Makueni and request IEBC to really reconsider splitting Makueni into two. Currently, it is the only one in Eastern Province with has many square kilometers and a very high population. view
  • 22 Feb 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to take this opportunity to also join you and my colleagues in sending condolences to the family and the people of Kangema. In December, Mr. Michuki bought me lunch together with Mr. Kabogo in the dining hall. He was an honest man. If he gave you an appointment, he would not fail you. When I met him outside and inside Parliament, he used to call me “Kaiti”. In the circles of business, he was a very honest and straight person. He brought changes in every Ministry that he was transferred to. I would like ... view
  • 14 Feb 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am aware that the price of maize grain has come down from Kshs91.42 in July, 2011 to Kshs67.20 in January, 2012 for a packet of two kilogrammes thus reducing the price by Kshs24.20. Consequently, the price of maize flour has reduced from Kshs135.70 to Kshs111.75 for a two kilogramme packet of sifted maize meal giving a reduction of Kshs27.95 over the same period. The net effect is that maize flour prices are responding to the maize grain price reduction. However, the reduction has not been significant due to escalating fuel prices ... view
  • 14 Feb 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to remind the hon. Member that the economy is liberalized and as a Ministry we do not have the authority to set the price of maize flour. Secondly, the millers are the ones who have been setting the prices. The problem we have been facing is that the retailers, say, the supermarkets, have not been honoring that. I would like to give the example of sugar. The price of sugar dropped to Kshs2,500 or Kshs3,000 a bag, but the price of sugar in our supermarkets and other retailers is indicative of a very minimal ... view
