  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Arid Lands Management Project 2 has come to an end. We are negotiating with the development partners, the European Union, to see whether this project can be extended. If the time comes, then we will do re- assessment to see which other areas can still come under this project. view
  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we are doing our best. We are not getting a lot of funds as we expected but already in Turkana, we are putting up three classrooms and a dormitory in Turkana Kenya Medical Training Centre. I am sure when we get more money in the next budget, we will give them that consideration. view
  • 7 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: I do not see much difference between the national KMTC and the Fisheries. Last time, we went there to launch a policy for our Ministry and we visited all those areas and saw the priority was the KMTC which was lacking those facilities. They made the request and we gave them. For this other one, we will give them a consideration next time when we get the funding in the next budget. view
  • 11 Nov 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) It is not possible to include Buuri District in the ASAL Development Programme since the second phase of the Arid Lands Resource Management Project is coming to an end in June, 2010. (b) The Ministry of State for Development of Northern Kenya and Other Arid Lands does not undertake classification of areas as hardship and has, therefore, no mandate to gazette Buuri District as one. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 11 Nov 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, while I do not deny the statement by my colleague, but our Ministry is not concerned with classification in terms of employment. That is for the Ministry of State for Public Service. view
  • 11 Nov 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have not misled the House. If Ewaso Nyiro Development Authority has covered parts of that district, that is well and good. When the next phase of the ASAL Development Programme comes into effect, and if the experts who are to assess the impact of the ASAL projects come, we shall see what can be done for him. view
  • 20 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would like to take this opportunity to support the Vote for this Ministry. I would like to commend the Minister and the staff of this Ministry for their efforts in trying to contain, with the little money that they have, some of the diseases. They have done so much in containing some of the diseases as has been mentioned by the Minister like the PPR and others. However, a lot needs to be done. Eradication of Rinderpest is good news to the pastoralists and livestock farmers. But the issue of tsetse fly needs more effort ... view
  • 6 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. My Ministry has plans to carry out pavement repairs on Kapsoit-Sondu Road in the 2007/2008 Financial Year. An amount of Kshs4 million has been issued to the District Works Officer, Kericho District, for the maintenance of the road. The length of the road is 34 kilometres and falls within Kericho District. It is classified as C225 and was constructed to bitumen standards in the 2001/2002 Financial Year. view
  • 6 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I share the concern of the hon. Member, but once the funds are availed, the road will be done to that standard. view
  • 6 Sep 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Government does not provide services just to ask for votes. It is the responsibility of the Government to provide the service with or without the votes. My Ministry is aware that the heavy traffic to Kisumu has been deviating to Kapsoit-Sondu Road on account of the current condition of the Sondu-Ahero Road which will also be repaired separately under the Fuel Levy Fund. We all understand that the roads have been in poor state for a very long time. The current Government is doing a lot to put the roads in good condition. view
