  • 18 May 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I would also like to support this Motion. When we come up with a Parliamentary Health Services Unit, we will promote, improve and ensure that there is a sense of wholeness. The persons we are looking at will be at the centre of attention. They will be enabled to grow and enhance how they contribute. view
  • 18 May 2022 in National Assembly: Even though the work of Members of Parliament is not classified as essential, where people work for almost 24 hours... It is clear that Members sit in the Chamber or go to Committee meetings. They are called upon to respond to the various needs of the persons they are accountable to. This is an extremely important idea. When we look at the well-being of Members of Parliament, we should talk of how we can ensure that there is a deliberate mechanism for them to feel comfortable and safe. As the Leader of the Majority Party indicated, we know that Members ... view
  • 18 May 2022 in National Assembly: I support this Motion. It is, indeed, an extremely foundational framework that will enable Parliament to have the maximum output from Members of Parliament. As had been indicated, a Parliamentary Health Services Unit will not only provide medical services but it will also give an opportunity for Members and staff to think of wellness and the complete inner sense of contentment and satisfaction. view
  • 18 May 2022 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I support this Motion because it will enhance productivity at work and ensure that, if there were to be any issues that could later affect, in a significant manner, the health of any Member of Parliament, they can be addressed much early and handled. view

  • 17 May 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. It is just some clarification with regard to the office of the Secretary of Children Services and the amendment that is clarifying the responsibility. I seek clarification from the Committee on how this is connecting. The office of the Director already had very clear regulations and duties. If we dropped the office of the Director and incorporated it in the office of the Secretary for Children Affairs, it would need some degree of clarification so that we do not have confusion and overlap. It would be good if I could just get some clarification ... view
  • 17 May 2022 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, as much as I appreciate the effort to ensure that we manage and harmonise the conflicts that arise in the children’s sector because of different offices, it is not accurate to indicate that the only thing we are doing is changing the title. As Hon. Millie has indicated, I served as the Secretary of Children Services and there was still a Director. So, it is important that as we harmonise the roles because there are areas that had conflicts. We should not mislead the House by saying that all we have done is to change the ... view
  • 25 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I rise to ask Question 507 of 2021 directed to the Cabinet Secretary for Education: The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 25 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: (i) Could the Cabinet Secretary indicate whether the Ministry has carried out any investigation(s) into the circumstances which have occasioned cases of destruction of school properties, in particular burning of dormitories and, if so, what were the findings of the investigations? (ii) Could the Cabinet Secretary explain the correlation between very high budgetary projections for re-construction of property destroyed during the schools’ unrest as instituted by administration of schools and the amount charged per student? (iii) What steps is the Ministry taking to ensure the safety of all learners in public schools, given that in many cases students in affected ... view
  • 17 Nov 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. At the outset, I would like to support because as it has been clearly indicated, this is a framework that is extremely important in terms of pulling and allowing very vulnerable persons into organised groups so that they can address very specific issues which usually touch on the community. A lot of the groups at the community level have direct impact when they come together as youth groups, older persons groups or men groups. They increasingly help us to break the fragmentation when there is a perception of struggling or fighting for little resources ... view
