Thank you very much, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I want to comment on this labour issue. Although I am a Member of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, I think the ultimate solution to this issue will be when the Ministry becomes serious to take up labour exports so that it is regulated from a respected Government Ministry. That is so that we can have tight records of people in terms of who are going, where they are going, what they are doing and whether they are making any progress. In the meantime, if they are left to some ...

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. The roads that my friend is speaking to are well-defined as sugar roads. They are within the provisions of the sugar factories. They are always maintained by the sugar industry. Now that county governments will take over and are being given the role, they must also take charge of those roads

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. This is the most controversial part of the Bill. Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. This is in tandem with the Government’s aspiration of people serving for a particular time. The elected director serves for a period of three years. We want these directors to serve for a period of three years, renewable through an election.

Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me an opportunity to add my voice to this noble Bill. First, I want to start by thanking the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning, chaired by the iron lady, Hon. Gladys Wanga, for remembering Hon. Oroo Oyioka’s dream posthumously. Everything that happens in life, more so in this country, has good and bad sides. While digital and mobile lending has given ease in accessing money by various people, it has lots of side effects because the interest rate is very high. It has discouraged the young people from ...

and young people tell me: “Tomorrow we will treat you uncle.” I start wondering this man is jobless, how is he going to treat me? The following day there is betting and when they come back, they have money and within a short time, when I want to get them employment elsewhere, I realise they are in CRB. So, while I am saying that this should continue to make life a little bit easier for our boys, we call upon the CBK, after this amendment, to regulate them and not only the small mobile and digital lenders, but we want ...
