  • 16 Feb 2021 in Senate: What am I trying to say in a nutshell? I am trying to say that the spirit of that great man who was a peacemaker--- In fact, when he was making peace, he had to hear people from both sides. Sen. Dullo has been a peacemaker in another capacity. Of course, that is a name she is given when she is out there and not when we are here. In all honesty, I hope we will build this country to be a democratic and open society as a bottom line. From what I gathered from my association and relationship with ... view
  • 16 Feb 2021 in Senate: If you live in a society where people are in art--- For example, at one time the famous Nominated Member of Parliament from Nakuru, Hon. Chottara, had two propositions about having elections when the late former President Moi used to know a bad and good man. • 16 Feb 2021 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, nearly every Senator has spoken in tribute to our departed colleague, Sen. Haji. I must say this cannot be the last word. Each one of us even given an hour, two or three, they will never be short of anything to say about this great man. I am hopeful that what we have said today in this Chamber is a reflection of our thoughts and appreciation of his commitment and life of service to the nation, called Kenya. I conclude by saying that there have been some remarks that have come to the Floor about Sen. ... view
  • 10 Feb 2021 in Senate: Madam Deputy Speaker, I commend the Senator for Kisumu County for bringing up this matter. I hope at the end of it, this matter will be referred to the relevant Committee for proper consideration and recommendations brought to this House. What makes me feel terrible about this issue is that the forceful eviction is illegal. Even if you trespass in somebody’s land, they cannot just begin beating you up! You have to follow due process. The law recognises public land. There is a procedure that they must follow. Since the enactment of the Constitution 2010, the principle that should guide ... view

  • 10 Feb 2021 in Senate: In any case, if you have allowed somebody to stay on your land for more than 20 or 30 years, the principle of law that applies is that you have to prove that the right of possession still can be enjoyed by that particular individual. Those principles are applied in the courts all the time. I know as a matter of fact that the eviction laws and procedures are in place. Whether or not somebody is on your land and you think they do not deserve to be there and they are unwilling to move out of that land, the ... view
