22 May 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, therefore, Members of the Jubilee Party should go back and think critically, so that this matter is resolved. However, from the language I have heard here today, Sen. (Prof.) Kindiki’s case was made worse. It is as if this case was against other forces that are not in this House because there were attacks against offices not involved in this debate. When people say that we have dictatorship in Kenya and they remain in that same government or party, there is no honesty and people are not being candid. If you think Kenya should move forward on ...

22 May 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, at least, if you give somebody latitude---. The words that are being used on the Floor of the House like ‘rape,’ what would young people, and particularly our women, think about our language? I think we should use language with decorum.

19 May 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for that ruling. With the pandemic and nobody not knowing when it will end, all over the world, people are looking for innovative ways to transact business. Here in the country, every arm of Government has made adjustments, so that work continues even as we find ourselves in a very difficult position. I am sure that the operations within the Executive The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. are not at a standstill; they are also finding innovative ways of holding meetings. Some of those meetings are statutory and must be held. The courts also have come up with innovative ways of dealing with hearings. For example, in criminal cases where accused persons must always be present, the courts have come up with ways and means of ensuring that certain cases of urgency must continue, notwithstanding the presence or absence of parties in cases that are going on in the courts. Parliament is an important Arm. Law making must continue and we can never have a situation where ...

19 May 2020 in Senate:
Madam Temporary Speaker, let me thank Senior Counsel, Sen. Omogeni. I want to thank him for doing such a sterling job and representing the Senate effectively. He has got a vast experience in public law and litigation, generally. As I congratulate him, I also congratulate all the Senators. When this case came up, all the Senators who were available on the date it was mentioned for the first time all walked to the Supreme Court. I remember Sen. Malalah was there in a very flowery suit, together with the governors, which made an impression that the Senate is prepared to ...

19 May 2020 in Senate:
I congratulate Sen. Omogeni particularly because on the day this matter was scheduled for hearing in the Supreme Court, we had the other case which is before the High Court and most of the lawyers went there. He was not quite well prepared to go and argue the case. However, after some consultations, he agreed to go and he did a wonderful job. The arguments you made carried the day. We are very proud of one of our own for having persuaded the Supreme Court. I want to persuade the Senate because we had this argument at one time when ...

19 May 2020 in Senate:
It is a day that if we were not having the curfew, we would have had a bottle of champagne, particularly for Sen. Omogeni. We will have it one day. Thank you very much, Madam Temporary Speaker.

12 May 2020 in Senate:
Mr. Speaker, Sir, at the end of the day, whatever our passions or anger, the rules of this House must be observed. I heard Sen. Murkomen state unequivocally that the President should stop lying to the nation and should now deliver the things that he itemized. Mr. Speaker, Sir, is it in order for him to run away from his statement and try to persuade us that he did not make it? If he cannot withdraw the statement now, in the proceedings of the House in the afternoon or tomorrow, he should accordingly withdraw and apologize.
