It is because our amendments had been filed up to three or four months ago. It would have saved the Committee and the House a lot of time if we would have synchronized these amendments. They were tabled several months ago. With those few remarks, I support. view

I beg to move: That, Clause 2 of the Bill be amended— (a) in the definition of the word “donor” by deleting the words ‘and the person need not be the spouse of the person she or he is donating the gametes to”. Okay. We are just moving Clause 2(a). Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I am seeking clarification from you. I do not think I have seen on the Order Paper a notice from the Committee to move. I beg to move: That, Clause 2 of the Bill be amended by— (c) deleting the definition of “eggs” and substituting therefor the following new definition− “egg” means a live human ovum;” (d) deleting the definition of “embryo” and substituting therefor the following new definition− “embryo” means a live pre-born person or child from fertilisation or conception until transfer into the adoptive or surrogate mother;” view

In the statement of the problem, there is nothing like an egg in the process of fertilisation; it is a new human being. As we know, in Article 26(2) of our Constitution that we uphold, life begins at conception and a fertilisation of a sperm and an egg has united.
