  • 13 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: locally trained teachers work there for the period which we shall determine. Afterwards, when security is back, we can give them teachers. The history of teaching in this country is very interesting. All communities have had a chance to protect teachers who are non-local. The early teachers in Central Kenya at Alliance High School and other places in this country were Europeans. It was the duty of the local communities to protect those Europeans until they trained the local people to become teachers. That is how we got the teachers we have today. The communities and the leaders of north ... view
  • 13 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: The issue of affirmative action is everywhere. We have had girls go to university at a lower grade. We have had people who are physically challenged go to university at a lower grade but immediately when we get to a level where everybody can go there, then we can move into the mainstream. I beg to support. Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
  • 1 Mar 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I directly support this Motion. I want to remind this House that in 2015, 28 teachers died in the north eastern parts of Kenya. Out of the 28 teachers, 14 were from the former Western Province, five of them were from Vihiga County and two were from Emuhaya, which I represent. We buried them. For us, our cash crop is our teachers. When we give you our coffee, who are the teachers and you throw it into water, that cannot be accepted. Therefore, I support this Motion that we get short-term solutions to have ... view
  • 21 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I am a Member of the Departmental Committee on Labour and Social Welfare and we have noted with great concern the matter that has been raised by the Hon. Member. As a Committee, under the chairmanship of Hon. Wario, we are already putting in place certain things that will facilitate the operation of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF). The monies from the fund will be dispersed well and on time. We also noticed that concerning the monies that should go to our people in various parts there lacks regulation. We have been able to ... view
  • 21 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Moving forward, this is something I believe the Committee, under the chairmanship of Hon. Wario has the capacity to tackle. We shall report back to this House our progress. view

  • 15 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Hon. Speaker. For me, this is quite regrettable because this week, the Leader of the Majority Party has been telling us in this House that the Chairpersons are not available and so we cannot move forward. view
  • 15 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. Acertified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 15 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Can this Hon. Member, please, allow me to speak so that the Speaker may get what I am saying? At this rate, the House will not operationalise. I think it is the business of the Leader of the Majority Party to make sure that this House operates. I am also aware that many times, when your cohort is called for kamukunjis, nobody misses. At one point, I sat in a Committee where we even tried to change one of the chairs and you came intentionally to make sure that we have that chair there. Now these chairs are not doing ... view
  • 15 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Before you shut me out, I want to say that, maybe, we should be given space to adjourn and discuss such a business because there is a lot of business to be discussed. Thank you, Hon. Speaker. view
