  • 10 Feb 2021 in Senate: here and there. There is mboga even at the fence and you can cook something. If you look at their faces, our children are extremely hungry. There is neither school milk nor school feeding. The other day I was in Kawangware and I visited six schools. There is a problem. Can that programme be reinstated? Finally, on the second Statement that Sen. Kwamboka has asked for, it is extremely important on the issue of disabilities. I know the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAF) has really helped and some of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committees in some constituencies. Madam ... view
  • 9 Feb 2021 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am not aware of this caucus that I was being crowned as the majority leader. We have confidence in the leadership in this House. Mr. Speaker, Sir, allow me to join you in welcoming Members back to this very important penultimate session of the Senate. I really encourage that we put our best foot forward. I want to agree with this Motion and support it in terms of reconstituting SBC. Mr. Speaker, Sir, despite being one of the Members, I heard Sen. Orengo saying it consists of the leadership plus other Members ... view
  • 9 Feb 2021 in Senate: and Social Welfare this coming weekend. We have not approved, but we intend to do our planning because there are a lot of matters of labour and social welfare that we need to focus on. Finally on what Sen. Wetangula has said, the radar of the Senate must be up. Our antennas must be up. If you look at the proposals that have been brought by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) and now the National Treasury is talking about, there is an attempt to circumvent the resolution of this House on the formula through the back door. The proposal ... view
  • 9 Feb 2021 in Senate: Yes, Sen. Wambua, the Ndengu Bill where we are great participants. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I welcome all of you back to the capital that I represent. Welcome back from the villages. I am sure you have seen Nairobi has been peaceful. I have heard Senators and politicians doing a lot of bad politics across the country. Please, come back to Nairobi with some decorum. Our youth do not want to be part of the poisonous politics that is beginning. Thank you. view
  • 29 Dec 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I support that the Bill be read a Third Time. As the Chairperson of the Committee, we went through the Bill earlier today. We had various stakeholders from the Ministry, the Ant-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK), the National Olympic Committee (NOC), Athletics Kenya (AK) and a host of them that we spoke to today. We expressed our disappointment at the hurried nature in which this Bill has come. This is an extremely important Bill affecting our sports people. In as much as the process started in February, it was only published in the National Assembly at the ... view
  • 21 Dec 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. At the outset, I want to congratulate Sen. Cheruiyot for this landmark legislation that he has brought to this House. It will be forever remembered. I also want to thank the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries led by Sen. Ndwiga who has given us a brief exposition of the history of this struggle that has taken place both in this House and outside this House. Before I go into the details of this Bill, many people have lobbied because Sen. Cheruiyot Tweeted earlier for people to lobby their Senators. I received numerous calls ... view

  • 21 Dec 2020 in Senate: these organizations that do not grow even a single crop of tea. It is the same with maize and coffee. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I will tell you and you know from where you come from that one of the biggest causes of poverty in the Western region is maize farming. We need radical leadership to address the root cause of these issues. Many times, we are just like cashiers. I know that because I farm maize in Kitale. Throughout the year, you put money and at the end of the year, what you get cannot relate to it. Look at ... view
  • 21 Dec 2020 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I was joking with Sen. Ndwiga and Sen. Cheruiyot. They will agree with me that in any society you need the brokers to some extent. In the animal kingdom if there were no brokers, the lions would be eating grass because there would be no gazelles. You need a middleman in between the lion and the grass. In the same breadth, in this one, you need them, but let us regulate them and what they do. Our main focus must be the farmers. I want to affirm all those who have called me and lobbied that we ... view
